Steven Levin serves as Of Counsel
to the firm providing advice and guidance on workers’ compensation
matters. With a total of over 26 years of hands-on
experience in the public, corporate and private sectors,
Mr. Levin is a seasoned professional and contributes
significantly to providing the firm with added depth
in the area of workers’ compensation.
Immediately prior to joining the firm, Mr. Levin was with The Hartford Insurance
Co. as a Senior Staff Attorney. This position required litigating cases at all
levels on behalf of the company’s insureds. Prior to The Hartford, he worked
as a senior associate in the Workers’ Compensation Department of a private
law firm where he represented and tried cases on behalf of insurance carriers
and self-insureds in the eastern part of Pennsylvania.
Of most significance is his experience of 17 years with Cigna Insurance Company
where he served as Supervising Attorney in the Workers’ Compensation Department.
Mr. Levin created and managed the first in-house counsel position for Cigna Staff
Counsel in Philadelphia where he supervised and managed the Staff Counsel responsibility
for three offices. In addition, he participated and prepared seminars for Cigna
claims personnel and vocational experts on workers’ compensation issues.
In the public arena, Mr. Levin served as Assistant City Solicitor and then ultimately
was promoted to Chief Assistant City Solicitor for the City of Philadelphia Law
Department, having overall responsibility for the entire Workers’ Compensation
Department for the City of Philadelphia. As Chief, he supervised approx. 8 staff
members and provided legal advice to all City Departments on various aspects
of the Workers’ Compensation Act. He was responsible for handling civil
litigation against the City and personally tried approx. 40-50 arbitration and
3-4 jury trials during that time.
