History

Early settlers can be dated back to arriving on the land during the 16th century from New Sweden, similar to its neighboring boroughs of Eddystone and Feltonville. The land was originally a huge part of the agricultural demand used as producing farmlands but later became a suburban residential area of Philadlephia upon the construction of the Pennsylvania Railroad. After the railroad construction in 1874, a borough stop was created and named Folcroft, which translates to “leafy fields.” The borough that originally belonged to Darby Township was later incorporated in 1922.
