History

In 1682, after William Penn first arrived in the state, the Chichester Meeting was established within the community. Robert Wade, an early settler that arrived in the area in 1675, organized the meetings. The meeting house attained did not attain the status of Monthly Meeting until 1684. Members met in homes until the building was built in 1688 on two acres bought from James Brown. However, in January of 1769, a fire destroyed the building.

A new building was built within a year to replace the destroyed one. The building still shows bullet holes from the British foraging parties after the Battle of Brandywine in 1777.
