Brookhaven The borough of Brookhaven is situated in the southern region of Delaware County in the state of Pennsylvania. The borough covers 1,094.4 acres and has an elevation of 98 feet. History

The area was included in the land granted to William Penn by King Charles II of England in 1681. The land was divided up and given to the following: Thomas Coebourn – 317 acres Richard Few – 227 acres Thomas Brassey – 385 acres Following these initial districts being divided up, the area was further surveyed. Some of the original settlers, from which the roads were named after included: Trimble Edwards Lister Shepherd The land was mainly dairy and farmland but did include two mills.

Roads, such as Edgmont and Brookhaven, were developed to allow for travel between the two mills. Businesses began to be established, including Beatty Brothers General Store. The mills supplied most of the commercial activity. 19th Century By the late 19th century, most of the farms were owned by John Price Crozer, from which the Crozer-Chester Medical Center was named. Crozer did more than own the thriving large stock farms; he also bred prize bulls and racehorses.

However, soon after he died, his land was sold to developers, ending the reign of farmland in the community. At the time the borough was incorporated in 1945, the area was home to 150 homes containing 672 residents. This was just the beginning, and over a span of the following fifty years, the community grew to 3,600 homes, condos, and apartments with a population of almost 8,000. The population for the borough was 7,985 in 2000. This count included 3,476 households and 2,200 families. There were 3,595 housing units. The racial breakdown of the townspeople included the following: 92.4% white 3.7% African American 2.0% Hispanic or Latino 0.1% Native American 1.9% Asian 0.00% Pacific Islander 0.3% other races 1.6% two or more races The annual income averaged $67,348 per household. Men in the borough averaged $40,158 versus $32,155 yearly for women.

The per capita income was $23,706, while the national average was $21,587.
