The census-designated place, or CDP, of Linwood, is located in the southern region of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The community takes up 320 acres and helps form the Lower Chichester Township. The neighborhood is just south of Twin Oaks and Upper Chichester. Other communities nearby include Feltonville, Boothwyn, and Marcus Hook. The Township Line Road forms the northern border, and Blueball Avenue comprises the western.

History

The greater area was granted to William Penn following the defeat of the Dutch that once controlled the region. Penn formed three counties that included: Chester Bucks Philadelphia The southeastern region of Chester County was further divided to become Delaware County, named for the Delaware River. Places of Worship There are several options for the townspeople to attend religious services of all faiths, such as: Mount Olive Baptist Church Linwood United Methodist Church Marcus Hook Baptist Church Holy Saviour Church The Bridge Church Neighborhood The Lower Chichester Volunteer Fire Station is located on Huddell Avenue.

The station was established in 1915 and has been serving the greater area of over 3,469 people. There are 30 members of the team that responded to eight structure fire calls in the year of 2019. The schools that the residents attend are part of the Chichester School District. Children within the neighborhood usually attend the following public schools in the area: Linwood Elementary School – located on Huddell Avenue Chichester Middle School – located on Meetinghouse Road Chichester High School – located on Chichester Avenue The community is home to the Holy Saviour-St. John Fisher School, located on East Ridge Road. The private Catholic school ranks in the top 20% of private schools in the state.

It has a student body of 235 students and a teacher-to-student ratio of one to 21. The school opened in 1917, and students from the following can attend: Lower Chichester Township Marcus Hook Upper Chichester Township

Demographics

By 2000, there were 3,374 residents, 1,204 households, and 859 families living within the community. By 2010, the population had decreased to 3,281. The breakdown of the ethnicities found within the community included the following: 96.50% white 1.81% African American 1.33% Hispanic or Latino 0.15% Native American 0.41% Asian 0.00% Pacific Islander 0.18% other races 0.95% two or more races The neighborhood’s per capita in 2018 was $18,302. However, in 2000 the median income was $39,103 per household, and the median income for a family was $43,298.
