History

The main roadway that linked Chadds Ford on Brandywine Creek and Chester was Concord Road during colonial times. The Seven Stars Inn, located at the Five Points intersection, served British General Cornwallis in 1777. This was just two days following the Battle of the Brandywine while the British pursued George Washington’s army. Three Hessian soldiers were convicted of pillaging a local house just a day later.

The tavern was a frequent hangout for David Glasgow Farragut, an admiral in the US Navy, while a student in 1831. It became a speakeasy during prohibition in the 1920s. Unfortunately, the building was replaced by a gas station following its destruction in 1949.
