Parkside

The borough is located in the southern region of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The main roadways in the town are Pennsylvania Route 352, otherwise known as Edgmont Avenue, Chelton Road, Houston Avenue, and Roland Road. The area covers 128 acres and includes a small section of Ridley Creek located in Chester Park near the Taylor Memorial Arboretum.

History

The area was home to the Lenni – Lenape Native American tribe prior to being settled by the Dutch. The first European to settle in the area in 1609 was Henry Hudson. The Swedes and the English would follow him. Under the ruling of King Charles II of England, William Penn, a follower of the Quaker religion and a well-known English author, was granted the land that would become Pennsylvania. Penn divided the area up into three counties:

  • Chester
  • Philadelphia
  • Bucks

Philadelphia County was the first to be developed due to the proximity of the river. Chester County was further divided and renamed Delaware County in 1789 after the river. Delaware County has become the fifth most populous in the state and the third smallest. The county consists of 49 municipalities, including 27 boroughs.
