The unincorporated community of Gradyville is located in Edgmont Township in the northern region of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The intersection of Gradyville Road, Middletown Road, and Delchester Road is in the center of the town. West Chester Pike separates it from Willistown Woods, while Valley Road borders Woods at Sweetwater.

History

The greater area of the Edgmont Township was one of the first in the state. It was founded at the end of the 1680s and was named after one of its early settlers, Joseph Baker. Many communities make up the township.

This small town remains unincorporated and consists of the following:

• a flower shop
• an antique shop
• one or two houses
• an English-language Orthodox church

Historical Landmark

To the northwest is the historic Bates Motel. This attraction, located on Middletown Road, was established in 1991 by Randy Bates. What began as a haunted hayride quickly turned into an iconic attraction known across the country. It consists of three main attractions:

• a haunted hayride

An abandoned building is what remains of the historic Sleighton Farm School, located on Sleighton Farm Road just south of the community. The building once served as a reform school for troubled boys and girls. The farm was initially part of the land granted to William Penn. It was settled by one of the first landowners in the area, Henry Sleighton. The Quakers established the Philadelphia House of Refuge in 1826. The reform school worked in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Prison Society. The school closed in 2001, and the property was eligible to be added to the Register of Historic Places in 2002 but has since been neglected.

Neighborhood

The community is home to the White Horse Village, an active senior living community. The community includes 335 options for independent residence and a two-story Healthcare Center that consists of the following:
