History

The community was named after one of the early families that settled just after William Penn arrived in 1682. The Worrall family settled in Media but played a crucial part in the greater area. Isaac Worrall and the generations of Worrall’s were known for the following:

  • 1854 – one of the incorporators of Christ Church
  • 1864 – owned Scroggie Valley
  • 1922 – helped establish the South Media Fire Company

Within the community is the Natural Lands’ Hildacy Preserve. This preserved land is what remains of the 300-acre land grant from William Penn to a local tanner. One small grove of trees is left after most of the mature oaks were cleared for agriculture and timber. A stone farmhouse that was built in 1806 stands as the headquarters for the land, and a smaller building serves as the residence for the property manager. The property was purchased by Hilda and Cyril Fox in 1936. They lived on the property for almost 40 years, raising German shepherds and racehorses. Fox donated the land to Natural Lands in 1981 for them to continue preserving the land. Since then, the woodlands, meadows, and wetlands have been restored to a more natural state.
