Aston
The township of Aston is situated in the southwestern region of Delaware County in the state of Pennsylvania. The township covers 3,737.6 acres and has an elevation of 213 feet. Within the township are the communities of Green Ridge, Chester Plaza, and Aston Arms. Sharing borders with it are Chester Township, Brookhaven, Alverno Valley Farms, and Aston Mills. The main roadways within the area are Concord Road, Pennell Road, Knowlton Road, and Bridgewater Road.
History
The area was formerly known as Northley, following the first settlements in 1682. In 1688, it was incorporated into a township. Edward Carter, the township’s constable, changed the name in honor of his hometown in Oxfordshire, England. Boundaries were established in 1945, following it becoming a first-class township in 1906. During this time, the northwestern region seceded in order to form the Chester Heights borough.
A memorial for all the township’s veterans was built at the Five Points intersection of Concord Road, Pennell Road, and Knowlton Road. The unveiling of the memorial was in 2006, followed by a formal dedication in 2007.
