Established in 1935, Glen Providence Park features 25 acres of natural beauty coated with hillsides, a vast diversity of trees, bushes, plants, and wildlife. This historical park was generously donated by George and Eleanor Butler 85 years ago. Since then, the park has been enjoyed by the community of nature lovers, families, hikers, and visitors over generations. There are a multitude of activities and events that are hosted monthly in the park, so be sure to check their website before you visit.
The surrounding areas of the park are home to several kinds of species of plants, birds, and amphibians. With streams, wetlands, ponds, and wooded areas, the land makes for a perfect habitat. The park continues to gather information on the different types of species that live on their property. Currently, the bird list has reached 118 different species, and the trees list is up to 54 species. The park also offers a beautiful bird sanctuary and arboretum that is a must-see for visitors.
With the trail ranging about two miles in length, there are many different activities to explore and so many sites to see. Take the family along and spend a few hours of bird watching, followed by a nice picnic by the pond located in the center of the park. You’ll also spot local photographers capturing shots of the lush landscaping and wildlife all around the park. There are also other activities like fishing, sledding (during the winter months). The park is also dog-friendly, so bring your furry friend along for a pleasant stroll along the paths.
No matter the time of year, there are always special events and recreational activities to join. The park showcases events such as Arts in the Park, which brings a variety of entertainment to the park for visitors to enjoy. Depending on the season, you can enjoy performances from the international ballet, symphonies, several different concerts, and live music.
