Feltonville, located in North Philadelphia, is a working-class suburb that borders Logan and Hunting Park on the east, Lawncrest and Juniata on the west, Olney on the south, and Fairhill and Harrowgate on the north.

History

Previously known as "Wyoming Villa" or "Wyoming Valley" in the late 1800s, Feltonville was an in-demand area to reside in due to the high grounds, green natural rolling hills, and gorgeous homes in the area. The expanding area built the Wyoming Branch of the Free Library of Philadlephia in 1927 as a part of the recreation field that was already constructed on site.

The Feltonville station helped the suburban area with transportation to and from the City of Philadelphia in the 1900s through the use of the Reading Railroad train that ran through 3rd and Berks Street towards Newtown, Pennsylvania.

Demographics

Feltonville is culturally rich with a diverse population with an estimated 27 languages spoken in and around the neighborhood. Statistics from the census of 2010 shared that Feltonville had a varying racial makeup of about 42% Hispanic, 30% African American, 13% White, 9% Asian, and 4% of all other races.

Historical Landmarks

The Feltonville School No. 2, also known as the Feltonville School, is a landmark school building in Philadelphia's Feltonville neighborhood. It was completed in 1908 and was designed by architect Henry deCourcy Richards.

The two-story Late Gothic Revival-style brick building continues to stand tall and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
