Green Ridge

The neighborhood of Green Ridge, or Village Green, is a census-designated place, or CDP, located in the southern region of Delaware County in Pennsylvania. The community helps to form Ashton Township, along with other communities like Chesters Plaza and Aston Arms. It covers 1,216 acres and sits at an elevation of 220 feet. History

In 1762, James Johnson received a license to keep the first house of entertainment in Aston, known as the Seven Stars Hotel. The public house, built in 1738, was located at the Five Points intersection on Concord Road. This was the main road from Brandywine Creek to Chadds Ford. Following the Battle of Brandywine, British General Cornwallis stayed overnight in the tavern. During the early 1800s, United States Navy flag officer David Glasgow Farragut was said to frequent the tavern as a young student.

Eventually, the structure became a stop for stagecoaches and watering horses. Additionally, it served as the only voting site in the greater area. In the 1920s, the tavern was converted into a speakeasy. Unfortunately, in 1949, the building was destroyed, and the site became home to a gas station.
